The University College
The development of science and technology in this dynamic world depends largely on the provision of a wide variety of learning opportunities. Different plans for achieving the vision for development in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the policies of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for the development of higher education require making universities compatible with new educational changes. This will need restructuring of the universities and providing new educational areas.
In many countries, higher education covers “formal higher education” as well as “open higher education”. Formal higher education is devoted to scientific, long-term, and basic education, while open higher education deals with applied and short-term education. This kind of education has a high impact on solving problems in the society, organizations, and industries. One of the most noteworthy features of open higher education is its flexibility towards the changes of the environment and possibility of planning educational courses which are compatible with the needs of the society.
In order to respond to the needs of the society and to provide applied education compatible with new developments in science and technology, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has established the University College, as the first case in the country, to provide open education programs.
