Administrative Secretary of the Department
Academic Highlights
Given that Arabic Language and Literature is the key to understanding the Quran and Islamic concepts, and due to the fact that Arabic is the language of the culture of many Muslim countries, the aim of the establishment of this field at universities of the country is two-fold: on the one hand, the field strives to identify and analyze current needs of the Islamic community in a variety of religious, cultural, intellectual, linguistic, and literary domains. On the other hand, according to the mutual, broad interactions between the two languages of Persian and Arabic, this field seeks to gain in depth knowledge of the Persian language by making use of Islamic resources and relying on basic, theoretical research done on the Arabic language. In order to fulfill these goals, Arabic Language and Literature serves to recognize the cultural, ideological, and literary aspects of the two languages, produce individuals familiar with religious, literary texts, and develop political and social relations between the Arab countries and the Islamic Republic of Iran. It also nurtures committed individuals to expand the achievements of Persian civilization, enjoying the genuine legacy of Islam.
With the lunch of the undergraduate programs in Arabic Language and Literature, the department officially began its work as an independent major. Thereafter, the Master’s and Doctoral degree programs were launched in 1991 and 1997, respectively. The Doctoral degree program of the department of Arabic Language and Literature was considered as the second Doctoral degree program of Ferowsi University, after that of Persian Language and Literature, and the third, at the country level, after Tehran and Tarbiat Modares Universities.
At present, the department of Arabic Language and Literature of Ferdowsi University is one of the most active academic departments of the country with 4 emeritus/emerita faculty members, an administrative secretary, 10 faculty members (3 professors, 5 associate professors, and 2 assistant professors), 36 Ph.D. candidates, 61 M.A. students, and 235 B.A. students.
